This half term in art we have been designing William Morris wallpaper. He got his inspiration from nature we have also been imitating Lowrys work. his drawings are normally full of factories and pollution . His drawings are shaded with pencil and charcoal. He was around about the time that William Morris was around. There work is incredibly expensive to buy.

In chorlton park primary school and especially in year five we are taking turns to keep 34 palmtops for each class for about 2 months. As we are doing about the victorians on the palmtops there are different types of programs to help us on our topic the victorians.Kartouche is a program which has different activities on it.The best activity that I liked is when we create our own storyboard and place different characters and different settings and props that suit the characters.Textease timeline is also a program thats on the palmtops. The laptops are touch screen and the screen can turn 180o degrees. We can go on the internet but on sensible things. The bad thing about them is that you cannot insert a CD.Last but not least we take them at home on weekends and do our homework and play.

This year we have had an exiting adventure through the lands of…VICTORIANS!
Yes, Mrs Wood has guided us there…and Mrs Hatahet (yay!)
We met queen Victoria and learned that she was born in 1819 and many more facts
but…then we called her viccy and got sent to the dungeons…..
I really liked the topic on the victorians it was really good we sorted a kidnap out in the victorians time the boy who was called Arthur, he works in a cotton factory and he got kidnaped but then we found out he did not get kidnaped he went missing.
The victorian period started in 1836 and ended in 1891.

Queen Victoria was crowned Queen at the age of 18, 1837.

Last week, year 5 started learning about candles for their science topic, we had a really fun week learning about the candles. Learning about the candles was really fun as we learned useful information and how importent oxygen is to candles and carbon dioxide and Hydrogen and the changing state through the wax.
Our student teacher Miss Hatehet did an expermant, asking why when you put a jar on the candle it stops buring.
What do you think will happen to the candle?

We have been doing art for this term , in art we have been drawing pictures of lowry and all the smoke has caused pollution. We had been drawing pictures of the lowry quite a long time ago when this person had been drawing picture with pollution in it. He didn’t like this stuff so he started to draw pictures of what he saw. All the people had just worked normally, with their heads down. Thousands of people have died of pollution.
would you live in a polluted world or not?

Year 5 have been learning about Victorian factories because of there big question topic. Whilst learning about this they have found out lots of information. We have found out that children from the age of 5 were forced to work and they did not get paid unless they did overtime. With only a bowl of uncooked muesli, they were forced to work they ,were out and about running under machines nasty accidents often happened. If children were to slow they often got beaten with a leather stick. Factory owners were called Millers.
So would you rather be a Victorian child or a modern child?

After a member of 5sk took care of their class pet snails, sadly two of them passed away!
Last Wednesday a member of 5SK a year five class in Charlton Park Primary School took responsibility of looking after their class pets six giant African land snails. They were not fully-grown they were just baby’s. Sadly, when she returned them, two of them had died. It wasn’t this person’s fault as she was trying her absolute best to take great care of the snails!
This person is so generous she used her own money to buy a bigger giant African land snail even though it wasn’t her fault the first two died in the first place. She also found the time to bury them in her own back garden so she really did obviously feel bad about the snails dying when she was looking after them. The class have now got a difficult challenge of naming the new snail, but many think the girl who bought the new snail should have the honour of naming it.
We caught up with a few children in this class who managed to give us a few comments.
Dylan said “I am disappointed that two of our snails have died but I’m really glad that we’ve got a new bigger snail.”
Owen said “I think it was really nice of her to get us a new giant African land snail especially out of her own savings!”
George said “I would feel really bad if two snails died when I was looking after them, especially as they were our class pets. For her then to buy an even better snail was fantastic!”
