On Monday 21st December, me and my family drove to the Lake District. We stayed in a cottage which was a converted victorian stable. Whilst we were there, me and my sister saw a big, fat pheasant which was strutting along in the snow. We named it Albear because we knew we would see it again. There was heaps of snow, enough to build a huge snowman and to have a snowball fight which I won! Whilst we were there, we saw plenty of wildlife including; hares, rabbits, woodpeckers, robins, chaffinch, blue tits, wood pigeons and white doves which liked to sit on top of the chimney waiting for the fire to be lit.
We went on a walk in the icy cold and I had a play on the swings where I got a terribly wet bottom! My Dad was desperate to find a warm, cosy pub but in the end we gave up and went back to light the wood burning stove after my Dad had finished chopping the wood.
On the journey home, we had a ride on a steamer boat on Lake Ullswater, where we drank hot soup. We had to sail through some freezing fog which was spooky like a ghost ride. But when it was clear, we could see the magnificent views of the snow topped mountains reflected in the crystal, clear water!
We wrote about a missing mill boy called Arthur as part of our topic on The Victorians. It was based on a newspaper report from the nineteenth century. We had to write a report about what could have happened to Arthur -but also found out about the conditions in factories and the lives of poor people living in and around manchester during Victorian times. We found out about the cotton mills and the British Empire.
On Wednesday 16Th of December year 5 had a Christmas party.first we played a game where you had to put on over-sized gloves, scarfs and hats, and then pick up a knife and fork and cut off a chunk of chocolate from a massive bar of chocolate and eat it before someone rolled a 6 on a giant dice and if they did roll a 6 they got to try and cut off a chunk in all the clothes.
T we all got lots of nice food like pokora, crisps, chocolates, and drinks.after that we had lots of dancing games.then the party was over and we’d all had a fun time.

This book is all about a girl called Lucy who has become the ‘Promised One’ when she had a car crash and her brain clicked. The ‘Promised One’ is someone who can talk to animals and in the future will save them from humans.
She speaks to animals in an old-fashioned language. The author has an extremely wild imagination and came up with a new words that the animals use such as ’spotfang’ for leopard and ‘wolfkin’ for dog.
Lucy is a very determined and confident girl. I really like her and wanted to be in the Amazon jungle with her because the author made it sound even more thrilling and amazing than it actually is.
Lucy travels to the Amazon jungle after she is kidnapped in England. The kidnappers take her as a consequence of her knowing about their menacingly vile plans to murder all the jaguars for their skins.
She makes a dramatic escape from her kidnappers with the help of all her animal friends and due to her cunningly clever ideas. Her father is a scientist and has gone to the same jungle as Lucy, but unfortunately his plane has crashed and he is chased by a tiger and tragically falls off a cliff face into a massive unknown crater!
Lucy and her animal companions rescue her father and two lost scientists in a perilous and daring enterprise.
I liked the book because of the fast moving plot and I wanted to keep reading it even though my parents told me to go to sleep! I would recommend this book to animal lovers and people who like to seek adventure. There is one more book that David Alric has written in this series. I can’t wait to read it!
Yesterday was really strange because as it was Victorian day all the year five staff had to act and dress as Victorian staff in a school.Miss Khan looked fantastic and unfortunately for us she also acted very much like a Victorian teacher that means all the more beatings for us.It was different because all day long you heard teachers screaming and shouting but even though Miss Khan sometimes shouts on a normal day definately not all the time.
Victorian day made me feel just like a child in those times especially seeing all the teachers dressed up.It felt disgusting being shouted at but I know they were just pretending, well I think they were.Victorian day was also very fun but it must have been horrible to really hear your friends screaming whilst being beaten to the bone and not to be fake me personally would just have cryed all day.
If I could go back to the Victorian times I would tell the teachers and stop the teachers beating the children. I would ask the teachers how would you feel being beaten every day until you pass out of pain? To sum up this paragraph I would change the cruelty and the mean behaviour towards children in the Victorian times.
Now I have experienced how Victorian children would have treated it makes me much more intrested in the Victorians. It also makes me think what a great idea of a VICTORIAN DAY!
Today Chorlton Park’s huge choir went on a long but fun walk to a care home in Walley Range where they sang carols. The choir is made up of children from years 2 to 6, and currently has nearly 70 members. The choir did a fantastic job today, singing beautifully despite technical faults!
Well done to Maeve too – not only a great singer, but a talented photographer!
Well what can we say children yesterday was very different for year 5 as they stepped back in time to when the teachers were vile and the food was nothing more than watery sloppy porridge.
We started the day with a hygiene inspection where the children and parents had to present their hands front and back, fingernails and handkerchiefs to the teachers to make sure they were not coming into school with diseases. We then took the children into the Year5 building in separate entrances of course with Master Woods leading the boys and Mrs Khan and Mrs Wood leading the way for the girls.
The register was then taken swiftly whilst apples were collected for the teachers, thank you very much to the children who brought them in and shame on the children who didn’t (they got a beating instead!!) .
Next we proceeded into the dining hall to undertake another thrilling assembly with our head Mistress Ms Wray who for one day only invited the vile children’s parents in to learn about how to have good hygiene in the home and how to be clean upstanding citizens. Many of the children displayed poor behaviour so were taken outside by Mr Woods and Mrs Wood for lashes and harsh words. It was a great chance for the parents to see the children’s big question books where the topic based book showed off what the children had been learning about the Victorians.
After the assembly and singing the National Anthem each class was dismissed to undertake more Victorian lessons which included arithmetic, lines for bad behaviour, cooking gruel and mince pies, making pomanders for the Christmas tree, what the British Empire was and making bunting for the class. At playtime the children were given marbles, skipping ropes and hoops to play with.
All in all it was a fantastic day, the effort the children went to getting dressed up and into role was amazing so thank you parents for your support. The children enjoyed it but I don’t thinking they would like it everyday, neither would the teachers as their voices are very sore from shouting!!
We have taken pictures of the day and the children in ICT will be adding their own posts about the day in their ICT sessions.
Once again thank you to the children for their enthusiasm and for the parents for supporting this great day inYear 5 .
